About Nicole
Nicole Brachetti Peretti is the founder of the Nicole Brachetti Peretti Collection, a body of modern and contemporary artwork from around the world that seeks to act as a prism through which we can view our surroundings and the societies in which we live.
Nicole is passionate about supporting emerging artists, and through her Collection, she highlights their differing interpretations of the world and creates the opportunity to examine it through their eyes.
Reflecting on the failure of utopian architectural principles; challenging the erasure of ancient cultures by globalisation; interrogating the oppositional relationships that propel emotional experience; examining inherently subjective concepts such as space and time: these are some of the artistic drivers which have led to the creation of the pieces in the collection.
Founded in 2014, the evolving Nicole Brachetti Peretti Collection contains works of modern and contemporary art and is a celebration of art’s potential to further the cause of creating a society founded on freedom of expression, intercultural dialogue, tolerance and peace.
Nicole Brachetti Peretti was inspired to create the Collection by her interest in the meeting of culture and technology, and the artistic resonance that results from this convergence. Inspiration also came from a friend’s artistic initiative in Southern Spain, the NMAC Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit institution which focuses on how contemporary art can exist in perfect harmony with nature. It invites international artists to create site-specific commissions that are in tune with the landscape and cultural context of NMAC. The Nicole Brachetti Peretti Collection is affiliated to NMAC.
Through her Collection, Nicole seeks to combine unique works of art from across the globe, bringing together different cultures and traditions, in her belief that art is a key tool to fight for transparency in an open world. On that basis, the Collection is open to lending the artwork to museums, either for specific exhibitions or as long-term loans.
Since 2006, Nicole Brachetti Peretti has been a member of the Latin American Acquisitions Committee (LAAC) of the Tate Americas Foundation, an independent charity that supports the work of the Tate Gallery in the United Kingdom. Established in 2002, the LAAC is Tate’s first acquisition committee to proactively shift the museum’s art historical narratives beyond a US-Eurocentric canon.
The members are involved in adding to the collection and over 300 works by more than a hundred different artists from Latin America have been acquired so far, including pieces by Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Lygia Clark, Gego, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Guillermo Kuitca, Cildo Meireles and Hélio Oiticica. The artwork is either purchased through the Committee or received as gifts and is regularly shown at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, and Tate St Ives. Tate also loans the works to major retrospectives, group exhibitions and biennials around the world.
In 2017, Nicole Brachetti Peretti was one of the first outside investors of the prestigious photo agency Magnum. The main aim of the investment was to help the agency continue developing in an ever-changing digital landscape.
Nicole lives in London with her family.
